Bob Carpenter Wants Nothing To Do With FP's Scorecard

During Wednesday night's broadcast, Bob Carpenter was showing off his world famous "free" Bob Carpenter's Scorebook (learn about that here). Well FP decided to get the FP "remedial" Scorecard into the shot, and Bob was not happy. Carpenter called it "bush league" grabbed FP's scoresheet, and chucked it back at Santangelo.

After that happened FP was sure to let the fans know that the scorebook is free once again...

The Adventures Of Bob & FP Behind The Plate

During Wednesday night's Washington Nationals vs Arizona Diamondbacks game, Nats TV announcers Bob Carpenter & FP Santangelo moved from their usual positions high above the field in the announcers booth to a nice cushy seat in the first row of the Presidents Club just to the left of home plate.

Another tough weekend for the Washington Nationals.  And a tough weekend for Bob Carpenter who didn't make our list of the top quotes by Nationals announcers this past week.  Even though the Nats went 3-3, FP was knocking them out of the park as usual.  Here's the top quotes from last week.

One of the best parts about watching a Washington Nationals game is the back & forth between announcers FP Santangelo and Bob Carpenter.  This is especially true in cases where FP tries to give Bob a hard time about certain topics.

On Wednesday night Bob Carpenter decided to bring up the time he went and saw the musical Mary Poppins with his wife.  FP Santangelo jumped in, as he should have.

It was a tough weekend for the Washington Nationals.  After sweeping the White Sox the Nats were swept by the Atlanta Braves.  Despite one of those Braves games being on Fox, we still had plenty of great entertainment from our favorite two baseball announcers of all time.  So without furthur ado, here are Bob Carpenter & FP Santangelo's greatest hits from the previous week.

Davey Johnson Song, No Letup In My Lineup

Bob Carpenter has been mentioning the past few games a quote that he received from Davey Johnson.  According to Bob, the Nats skipper said that there was "No Letup" in the lineup.  Of course, Carp took that quote and turned it into something a little more fun.

Adam LaRoche was stuck in a rut.  He hadn't gotten a hit in his first fifteen at bats this season.  But on Tuesday night at Nats Park, after missing 2 straight games with a sore back, the slugger crushed his first two hits of the season, both homeruns, in a 8-7 win over the Chicago White Sox.

(A character from an HBO show joined the President's Race...lame...)

Gio Gonzalez started for the Nationals, but struggled early on raising his pitch count.  Much to his dismay, Captain Hook yanked Gio after 5 innings at 99 pitches.  Gio only gave up 1 earned run, on a bases loaded balk, and struck out 7.

Ryan Zimmerman, Jayson Werth, Bryce Harper, and Adam LaRoche aptly named by FP as Murderer's Row

The Nats were in great position with a 6-2 lead heading into the 7th inning but Tyler Clippard gave up 3 runs and made the game much closer than it should be.  The Nats picked up insurance runs in the 7th and 8th, and Rafael Soriano came on in the 9th to seal the 8-5 victory.  Instead the new closer gave up a 2 run homer to Alex Rios and walked the game winning run before closing the game for his 3rd save of the season.

The Nationals finished the game with 4 homers, all big.  Ian Desmond a solo shot in the 5th, Jayson Werth (with a new walk-up song) hit a 2 run homer in the 6th, and LaRoche added one a few batters later in the 6th for his first hit of the season.  Bob Carpenter (continuing the hits) was so excited he exclaimed, "VIVA LAROCHE!" as the ball cleared the centerfield wall.

Later, in the 8th inning, LaRoche belted a second homer.

The Nats are now 5-2 with another 2 games against the White Sox starting tomorrow at 7...

FP Santangelo & Bob Carpenter's Best Moments From Week 1

One of the benefits of being a fan of the Washington Nationals is that not only do you get to watch great baseball, you have an announce team with two guys with very different personalities that come together to give you good baseball analysis as well as entertainment and laughs.

Bob Carpenter and FP Santangelo have been entertaining us at the Nexus already in just 6 games.  Take a look at some of our favorite moments from the first week of the season:

Bob Carpenter Does Take 2 During Live Interview With Mike Rizzo

Here is a clip from the MASN post-game show where Bob Carpenter interviews Mike Rizzo live for TV.  Carp didn't really know he was live, so before his final question he tells the camera that the next question is for tomorrow, aka not live.

Bob stops Rizzo during his answer because he says "tomorrow" but the bit is airing tomorrow, so Bob tells him to take 2 and say "today".  It is a fun look at what happens behind the scenes.  Johnny Holiday and Ray Knight don't really know what to do.

FP Santangelo Calls The Cops On Annoying Clapper Then Gives Him A Present

During Tuesday night's broadcast of the Nationals vs Mets game, a clapping fan sitting outside of the press box was driving Bob Carpenter and FP Santangelo crazy.

At one point in the broadcast you could hear FP "SHHHHHHH" ing the guy.  Then later in the game you could hear the guy clap a few times and Bob Carpenter started cracking up.  It may have been worse than screaming Astros fan?  Should I interview this guy?

At one point FP took to the telestrator to delete the fan from the game.  It did not work.

"That's the clapper. Dude, knock it off alright.  We are SO DONE with whatever you are clapping about.  It is not that exciting, trust me." -FP Santangelo

That quote was followed by clapping...can't win...listen to the clip below:

Later in the broadcast, FP told security to ask the kid to stop clapping.  FP demanded prison time, but security guy just told him to stop.  In return for the compliance, FP made sure the kid got a nice gift.  A Mike Piazza bobblehead.  Not even a current player FP?

With the Clapping stopped, Tyler Moore came up to bat (later) and crushed a 2 run pinch hit homer to give the Nats the lead.  That was totally a Mets Rally Clap that FP Shut down!

The losing steak is over!  Bryce Harper crushed 2 homers and Ross Detwiler had a solid game on the mound to help the Nationals defeat the Marlins 8-4 on Wednesday night in Miami.  The Nats broke their 5 game skid and with a Braves loss the Nats lead the division by 5.

Detwiler went 5 2/3 innings giving up 3 runs on just 4 hits while striking out 4.  Bryce had the 2 jacks and Suzuki hit his first homer as a National.  Drew Storen had a huge 8th inning escaping a jam.  

So what else happened in the game?  We're gonna need a bullet list for this:

Bob & FP Imply That A Baseball Got An STD In Miami

Bob Carpenter & FP Santangelo must have been really giddy about the Nationals finally scoring some runs and winning a game.  On Wednesday night after Kurt Suzuki hit his first homer as a National in the 9th inning, the guys started talking about where the ball landed.  They imply...something:

FP:  "A little bit more to the left it might have got a Mojito in the Clevelander, or worse"

Bob:  "And who knows what else.  Folks you'll have to come down here to figure that out"

FP: "Yep, not for TV"

Earlier in the night the guys told kids to stop doing homework and start watching Nats games while teaching them incorrect facts about animals, and now they imply that a baseball may get a STD in the skeezy Clevelander club.  Again, awesome.

I'm up for listening to other theories about what "else" means.  Prostitutes?

FP Santangelo & Bob Carpenter Lessons: Pinocchio Dolphins And Miami Marlins

The Miami Marlins new stadium has an interesting homerun celebration.  The ballpark has a fountain in the outfield that sprays water while some metal-cutout Marlins circle around, looking like they are jumping out of the ocean and splashing back in.

Earlier in the season, the Washington Nationals play-by-play man Bob Carpenter mistakenly looked at the Marlins jumping and his mind automatically connected that with Dolphins.  After misspeaking and calling the marlins dolphins, FP Santangelo messed with him for the rest of the game, heckling Bob by calling them "long nose dolphins" and "Pinocchio dolphins".

Well on Wednesday night during the Nationals game in Miami, FP and Bob gave the children a little Zoology lesson.  Some of the quotes about the "marlin":

"You know in the Pacific Ocean those are known as long nose dolphins, but in the Atlantic those are Pinocchio Dolphins.  Very rare breed for you kids at home go in and tell your teacher’s tomorrow. Those are Pinnoccio Dolphins you learned that on the Nats broadcast." -FP

At this point, those who were not familiar with this inside joke were Tweeting at FP telling him that they are not dolphins, but marlins.  They continue:

FP: "Your discovery channel lesson for the night kids, now you can go to bed."

BOB: "well you know school’s back we’re here to educate"

FP: "Thats right, [don’t] do your homework, just watch Nats baseball"

FP & Carp Talk Walkie Talkies & Cheating

With two extremely slow pitchers on the mound and a dead stadium atmosphere, the Washington Nationals announce team brought up some more fun stuff.

The Phillies have their radar guy sitting right behind home plate.  The guy uses a radar gun to measure the speed of the pitch, then with the other hand puts a walkie talkie up to his mouth and reports the speed to the scoreboard.

FP Santangelo, back from vacation, decided (rightfully so) that this boring game needed some livening up.  Listen Below:

"Uh yeah Joe, that's a slider, 87, Jack Roger"

FP wonders if you can switch hands, he talks about the possibility of cramps.  They then talk conspiracy theories.  Earpieces in batters ears, blinking flashlights, dummy camera's with red lights, scoreboard secret lights, bullpens with binoculars, and "all kinds of CIA stuff"

If you aren't watchin on TV, you are missing some good stuff.

Severe Jammage: The Bob Carpenter Jammage Meter

If you've watched a Nationals game, you have most likely heard Bob Carpenter use his famous baseball phrase; JAMMAGE.  Jammage occurs when a pitcher throws an inside pitch that ends up "jamming" the hitter, causing them to get horrible contact on the small part of their bad, typically resulting in an easy pop-up.

FP has started to bring it up every time Bob uses Jammage, and the other night during the broadcast he came up with a "Jammage Scale".  Because of that, we have created the patented Bob Carpenter Jammage meter.

The device can be used by announcers to determine exactly how much Jammage was involved with a particular at bat.  That way, they can more accurately describe the jammage.  I mean don't you hate it when a clueless announcer says that it is "severe jammage" when the jammage is in fact "serious".  Well this should help him out in the future!
