Washington Nationals React To Bizarre National Anthem

When I saw a girl with an acoustic guitar about to sing the National Anthem, I was wondering what to expect.  Three seconds into the song, it was clear.

The young lady singing sort of...did something bizarre.  She kind of followed the actual notes, and sort of turned it into an upbeat happy song or something.  Take a look at the reaction by the Washington Nationals players & coaches...hilarious.

FP Santangelo & Bob Carpenter Lessons: Pinocchio Dolphins And Miami Marlins

The Miami Marlins new stadium has an interesting homerun celebration.  The ballpark has a fountain in the outfield that sprays water while some metal-cutout Marlins circle around, looking like they are jumping out of the ocean and splashing back in.

Earlier in the season, the Washington Nationals play-by-play man Bob Carpenter mistakenly looked at the Marlins jumping and his mind automatically connected that with Dolphins.  After misspeaking and calling the marlins dolphins, FP Santangelo messed with him for the rest of the game, heckling Bob by calling them "long nose dolphins" and "Pinocchio dolphins".

Well on Wednesday night during the Nationals game in Miami, FP and Bob gave the children a little Zoology lesson.  Some of the quotes about the "marlin":

"You know in the Pacific Ocean those are known as long nose dolphins, but in the Atlantic those are Pinocchio Dolphins.  Very rare breed for you kids at home go in and tell your teacher’s tomorrow. Those are Pinnoccio Dolphins you learned that on the Nats broadcast." -FP

At this point, those who were not familiar with this inside joke were Tweeting at FP telling him that they are not dolphins, but marlins.  They continue:

FP: "Your discovery channel lesson for the night kids, now you can go to bed."

BOB: "well you know school’s back we’re here to educate"

FP: "Thats right, [don’t] do your homework, just watch Nats baseball"

Bryce Harper Blasts Two Homeruns In Miami Including This Bomb

On Wednesday night in Miami, Bryce Harper busted himself and the Washington Nationals out of slumps after hitting two homeruns in back to back innings.  Bryce hit one that barely cleared the fence in the 4th inning, but when he came up to bat again in the 5th he hit an absolutely positively no doubter thanks for pitching rocket shot high into the upper level of Marlins Park.

Josh Johnson Dominates Nats In Loss

Marlins 5, Nationals 2

Josh Johnson pitched a near complete game 5 hitter to help the Marlins defeat the Washington Nationals 5-2 and split the doubleheader on Friday night at Nats Park.  Gio Gonzalez struck out 10 in 8 innings of work, but a 3 run 6th inning and a lack of offense by the Nats prevented him from getting his 14th win of the season. (13-6)

Johnson struck out 8 giving up 1 earned run and picked up his 7th win of the season to go to 7-7.  Johnson was 1-30 coming into the game and ended up going 2-4 from the plate.

Lombardozzi, Morse, Harper, and Bernadina were the only Nats to get a hit.  A sacrifice fly by Ryan Zimmerman to score Lombo after a leadoff triple was the only run DC could score aside from a bizarre 9th inning run on an injury.

In the 9th, Bryce Harper hit a single, and stole 2nd base with defensive indifference.  Then Michael Morse hit an infield single that injured the Marlins secondbaseman Emilio Bonofacio.  The injury caused the Bono to just flip the ball (error) to nobody in particular, and Bryce Harper scored, and Johnson was taken out of the game for the final out.

Harper Swings, Nats Miss

Marlins 3, Nationals 1

The Florida Marlins took the series and the win from the Nationals on Tuesday night in Florida winning 3-1 making that 19 straight wins for Anibal Sanchez against DC.


E-Jax didn't pitch terrible, but he did have a costly error on a pickoff play at first that eventually cost him a run and took him out of the game.  One run ain't gonna win it.  Sanchez was just better for the Marlins.  Anibal gave up 0 earned runs and only 3 hits.


Jhonatan Solano got his first Major League hit in his first Major League AB, a double off of Heath Bell in the 9th, but other than that, there weren't many offensive highlights.  Dezzy had 2 hits and Harper hit in his 9th straight game.

The Nationals only run was unearned in the 5th inning, after a stolen base & error helped get a runner on 3rd.  The next move was a suicide squeeze which new callup Corey Brown laid down perfectly.

The defining moment for the Nats happened in the 8th inning.  With 1 out and a runner on 1st, the Marlins pitcher Steve Cishek pulled an H-Rod and couldn't find the plate.  He walked 2 guys on 9 pitches and up came Bryce Harper with the bases loaded.  Harper came up hacking, swinging 3 times and striking out on a ball.  Zim came up and grounded out to end the inning and kill the Nationals chances of winning the ballgame.

So why did Harper have the go sign when the pitcher was choking away the game?  Was that a manager trusting a hitter who crushed his previous ball for a 400 foot triple?  Was it a young guy trying to win the ballgame with one swing?  Was it just the impatience of youth?  Whatever it was, it looked like the incorrect move.

In the 9th inning a jacked up Hanley Ramirez jacked the ball out of the ballpark to seal the deal for the Marlins.  That guy was having fun out there and making watching baseball fun.

Nats try to salvage one tomorrow...
