Bryce Harper Tries To Break Bat On Knee, Fails

Bryce Harper and his knees are having a lot of trouble lately. Bryce just missed an important game against the Dodgers after hurting his often hurt left knee on a diving catch in the previous game. The day before he had some trouble with the other knee after popping out in the bottom of the 9th inning with 2 runners on base and a chance to win the game. He was so frustrated with the out he decided to try to break his bat over his knee. He slammed the bat into his leg but it didn't break. Bryce grimaced in pain and tossed the bat with frustration. It looked like it hurt really bad. Here's what it looked like:

But after that minute was up, Harper showed Hernandez just how "bad" of a swing he really had...and this happened.

Span clearly was screaming / calling for the ball and as the left fielder Harper should have yielded to the center fielder. The 2 base error (charged to Bryce) was pretty costly and basically led to circumstances where the Nats lost the ball game. Take a look.

Michael Wilbon Thinks Bryce Harper Should Be Sent To The Minors

Nationals manager Matt Williams appeared on the Sports Junkies radio show on WJFK 106.7 The Fan on Wednesday, as he does each week, to talk about the Nats. One of the hosts of the Junkies, Jason "Lurch" Bishop asked Williams a sort of throwaway question about if it was a good idea to send 2 time All-Star Bryce Harper to the minors to get him out of a slump.

The Junkies, probably expecting a quick "Hell no" answer so they could just move on, got a little more out of Matt Williams, who didn't exactly shut down the possibility.  Lurch didn't even just ask the question, he asked if it was "stupid". Williams told the radio host that he was not an idiot for considering that action, but mentioned that Harper was too special to send down.

Bryce Harper is in the midst of a pretty awful slump right now. But the other day he broke out for at least one at bat when he crushed a line drive homerun in Philly. The Nats were getting killed, but Bryce was pumped. Here is his screaming reaction.

Bryce Harper Sticks It To Matt Williams With A Slow Jog

Last Saturday, Bryce Harper was benched by new manager Matt Williams for not hustling out a slow and easy grounder to the pitcher. Harper jogged and then didn't run all the way to first base. Bryce said it was his bad and life went on.

Well tonight, Bryce was no longer batting #2 in the order. Matt Williams moved him to the #6 slot. (Bryce, the "face of the franchise" has batted in 5 different positions in the order in the first 21 games of the season)

After another easy groundout Bryce Harper ran even slower than he did when he was benched. But at least this time he ran through the bag...at an exaggerated slow pace in just under 10 seconds.  (For those who don't know, this is exaggeration..several nerds have actually taken out a stopwatch and clocked him under 6 seconds...not the point) Check it out:

Bryce Harper crashed into the wall last night, and seems to be ok, so we decided to meme-ize the crazy play from the other night.  Here's a bunch of the results.

Bryce Harper Almost Kills Cubs Pitcher

Bryce Harper came up to bat and hit a crazy fast line drive right up the middle that was caught by the shortstop who was shifted over towards second base.  After the inning was over, the camera showed the slow motion view from the pitcher and OMG.  Just a few days after JA Happ got hit in the head, it almost happened again (well depending on depth perception).

Bryce KILLED the ball.  That would not have been good.  Scott Feldman of the Cubs lucked out.  Check out the closeness on the GIF:

Bryce Harper Uses Miguel Cabrera Bat

Bryce Harper is always looking for ways to improve his game.  His latest scheme is apparently using a bat that belongs to the first triple crown winner in 45 years, Miguel Cabrera.  Bryce walked in his first at bat with the magical bat and Bob Carpenter put it well:

On Thursday night against the Detroit Tigers, Bryce Harper flied out to deep left field and went back to the dugout frustrated that he missed the pitch and his chance at a homerun.  Harper did what he does when he is mad at himself, he walked into the dugout and slammed his helmet on the ground while making anger faces.  Check out the GIF.

Bryce Throws His Arms Up In The Air Sometimes

In the bottom of the 1st inning in Pittsburgh on Sunday afternoon, Bryce Harper checked his swing with two strikes.  There was an appeal to third base umpire John Hirschbeck who claimed that Harper went through with the swing, and called him out.

Bryce Harper was not happy with the call believing that he did check his swing.  The replay showed that the pitch should have been called a strike, but it wasn't and Harper acted out.  Bryce threw his hands up in the air to which Hirschbeck took exception.
