Cool National Anthem Lap Guitar Video

DC Sports Nexus ---- Tuesday, September 3, 2013

Everyone knows how much we love National Anthems.  Well here is Ken Glasser from Germantown Maryland playing the National Anthem at a Washington Nationals vs Atlanta Braves game earlier this season at Nats Park.

He is playing it on a Hawaiian Steel Acoustic Lap Guitar, which is weird, but sounds kind of cool.  Video follows:

Fan In Chicago Welcomes Bryce Harper To Wrigley

DC Sports Nexus ---- Monday, August 26, 2013

The following video comes to us from Wrigley Field.  As Bryce Harper runs out to his position in the outfield in the Nationals game against the Cubs, one fan screams out a horrible "zing" about Bryce Harper's mother.  The crowd around him seemed to not mind.  I'm not gonna type the exact phrase here, you can listen in the video below, NSFW.

Davey Johnson Wants To Choke Ryan Mattheus

DC Sports Nexus ---- Wednesday, May 22, 2013

Davey Johnson was on 106.7 the Fan with the Sports Junkies this morning and dropped this great quote when asked about how he felt when he heard pitcher Ryan Mattheus broke his pitching hand punching a locker after a loss.

"I want to choke him to death"

LOL.  I guess Davey was sort of joking.  Anyway, here is what we think that situation would look like:

Video: Jayson Werth's Rehab Start For The Potomac Nationals

DC Sports Nexus ---- Wednesday, May 15, 2013

Jayson Werth started a rehab assignment after hitting the DL with a hamstring injury.  Werth played for the Nats high A ball Potomac Nationals, started in right field, and took two at bats at the 2 spot before heading out early.

Werth got a hit, got in a rundown, threw out a guy at home plate, and parked his truck in a dangerous place.  Meanwhile I ate free hamburgers, pizza, hot dogs, and Uncle Julio's chicken tacos and chips.  Check out the video below.

Dog Nats Fan Finn At Washington Nationals Pups In The Park

DC Sports Nexus ---- Tuesday, April 30, 2013

Meet Finn.  Finn is 8 years old and is a huge Washington Nationals fan.  Finn loves going to games and even gets to go down on the field before games sometimes.  Oh...did I mention that Finn is a dog?

Washington Nationals Fans Sing Sweet Caroline, Sort Of

DC Sports Nexus ---- Saturday, April 27, 2013

On the Monday following the Boston Marathon bombings (5 days ago), the Washington Nationals returned from a road trip to take on the St. Louis Cardinals at Nats Park.  Early in the game, much like other Major League teams, the organization opted to play the Red Sox classic in-game song, Neil Diamond's Sweet Caroline, in honor of those hurt or killed in the terrible events in Boston.

One fan recorded the moment from his cell phone, and we have embedded it below.

GMU Racing President Angel Cabrera Defeats The Nationals Presidents

DC Sports Nexus ---- Friday, April 26, 2013

On April 25th, George Mason University held their 17th annual Victim's Rights Run & Walk, raising money to provide direct assistance to student survivors of sexual assault, stalking, and dating/partner violence.  The special guests for the day were the Washington Nationals Racing Presidents.

Teddy, George, Tom, & Abe raced around the parking lot (I guess Taft doesn't care about people...update, he was apparently at another gig at the Library of Congress) at GMU along side the George Mason Patriot mascot. Then all of a sudden, out of nowhere, another big-head mascot came barreling around the corner.

Sage & Sacrifice: Nats Fans Look To Ancient Rituals & Rubber Chickens To Heal Team (With Video)

DC Sports Nexus ----

As the church bells rang in the noon hour, it was time for the ritual to begin.  A man reached into his giant goodie bag and yanked out an oversized knife and a bright yellow rubber chicken.  By his side, a younger woman pulled out an old lighter from her jacket and a bundle of sage.  Had anyone happened to walk by they might have thought something nefarious was going on.  However, the actions of the two individuals were far from perfidious.

So who are these two shady characters and what were they doing standing outside of Nationals Park on Thursday afternoon?

Kozma Trippin' At The Nats Game Last Night

DC Sports Nexus ---- Tuesday, April 23, 2013

Here is a video taken from the crowd at Nats Park last night during the Washington Nationals Loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.  It is a bunch of Pete Kozma's at bats with some commentary.  There is only one catch.  It's shot in Kozma-Vision.

Jayson Werth Talks About His Game 4 Homer

DC Sports Nexus ---- Monday, April 22, 2013

The Washington Nationals sat down with Jayson Werth to go over his amazing at bat that ended in a walk-off playoff homerun that Nats fans will never forget.  The video was posted on MLB.com and then played before Monday night's game with the St. Lois Cardinals, their first matchup since the Cards eliminated the Nats from the playoffs in terrible fashion.

Check out the video and then rewatch my favorite video, the Game 4 experience from the crowd.

Shauna Sweeney Talks About Her National Anthem Performance

DC Sports Nexus ----

A few weeks ago, Shauna Sweeney sang the National Anthem at the Washington Nationals vs Florida Marlins game. (see video below)  Her version was non-traditional, and a little more upbeat than a typical anthem. The Washington Nationals players and coaches had some pretty funny expressions as they listened to Shauna sing.

So I got in touch with Shauna and asked her some questions about the experience on Video.  We talk about her decision to make the anthem her own, how she felt about the player reactions, and about her singing career.  Then, she mentions the Phillies...grrr...Check it out.

Strasburg Almost Gets Hit By A Baseball

DC Sports Nexus ---- Sunday, April 21, 2013

Here's a random video being taken of Stephen Strasburg where the Nats ace almost gets hit with a baseball while he is playing catch in the outfield.  Strasburg flinches real quick, gets his eye on the ball, and makes the catch so it doesn't hit him.  Video below.

Bryce Is The Man, Nats Beat Mets

DC Sports Nexus ----

Nationals 0 1 2 0 3 0 0 1 0 7 7 0
Mets 0 0 0 5 0 0 1 0 0 6 7 0

"You're the f**king man!"  That's what the Bryce Harper fan who recorded Harper's second homerun, the game winning homerun, that gave the Nationals the 7-6 victory over the New York Mets.  The Nationals scored all 7 runs on homers, helping out Gio Gonzalez who struggled on the day before he was knocked out of the game early.

Ian Desmond Signs Autograph For "Bryce Harper"

DC Sports Nexus ---- Friday, April 19, 2013

Here's Ian Desmond signing an autograph for a fan in a Bryce Harper mask.  I don't think that Desmond even notices.

Screech, G-Wiz, and Slapshot Dance & Gangnam Style

DC Sports Nexus ---- Tuesday, April 16, 2013

Who doesn't love when mascots rock out to popular dance songs?  The answer is nobody.  The following video was taken by a fan at a Nats game and it features 4 "local" mascots getting down to some poppin' beats, of course ending in Gangnam style (as all mascot bits do).

You've got the Nationals mascot Screech leading the way, the Wizards and Caps mascots (G-Wiz & Slapshot) on the sides, and for some reason the University of Delaware Blue Hen, YoUDee.  It appears to be inflatable versions of the back 3 guys.  Enjoy:

18 Navy Sailors Take Oath Of Enlistment At Nationals Game

DC Sports Nexus ----

Back on April 12th during a game against the Atlanta Braves, the Washington Nationals held a special salute to the United States Navy at the game.  The Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus was on hand, and 18 sailors were given the Oath of Enlistment standing on the baseball field at Nats Park.  Following is a brief video of the event from the US Navy:

Davey Johnson Song, No Letup In My Lineup

DC Sports Nexus ---- Friday, April 12, 2013

Bob Carpenter has been mentioning the past few games a quote that he received from Davey Johnson.  According to Bob, the Nats skipper said that there was "No Letup" in the lineup.  Of course, Carp took that quote and turned it into something a little more fun.

Bryce Harper's Amazing Opening Day

DC Sports Nexus ---- Tuesday, April 2, 2013

Expectations for Bryce Harper were high going into the 2013 season, but what Harper did on Monday afternoon in front of over 45,000 fans at Nats Park.  During the Washington Nationals opening day matchup against the Miami Marlins, the NL Rookie of the Year started the season by crushing homeruns in each of his first two at bats, sprinting around the bases, and throwing out the I Love You shoutout to his folks in the crowd.

Harper was coming off a strong spring and an even stronger end of spring where he seemed to get on base every time he stepped up to the plate.

After cranking a homer in the 1st inning to get the Nationals offense started, the crowd rose to their feet expecting a curtain call.  Bryce knew that that was just the beginning of a long season, so he remained in the dugout.  However, when he hit an even longer bomb in the 4th inning, the crowd refused to let Harper remain hidden.

Opening Day Is Tomorrow

DC Sports Nexus ---- Sunday, March 31, 2013

We can hardly wait.  It's been way too long since we walked out of Nats Park with tears in our eyes and Cardinal hate in our souls.  When baseball disappeared, so did a bit of DC.  But tomorrow it is back.  A new season, an improved team, and a city filled with Natitude.  I know one thing...I can't wait for TOMORROW...

It's Only a Day Away...

Gio Gonzalez vs Clayton Kershaw

DC Sports Nexus ---- Monday, March 18, 2013

Gio Gonzalez and Clayton Kershaw are mortal enemies.  At least when it comes to video game contests.  At least when the company tells them to be.

MLB 2K13 "Perfect Game Challenge" has the two guys going after each other with trash talk via YouTube and Twitter.  Today they released some new twitter trash talk.

From Gio:

"Kicked out of the game once again...Just like the senior prom"

From Kershaw:

"First he's in a zone, and now he's out...what a slaughter"
