Bryce Harper Donates Bats To Former Team At College Of Southern Nevada

DC Sports Nexus ---- Thursday, March 28, 2013

Tweeted By @SeanLarimer
In case you forgot, Bryce Harper dropped out of high school and earned his GED so he could become eligible for the MLB draft as early as possible, a move that turned out to be an amazing benefit to the Washington Nationals.

Before the draft, he played a season at Junior College at the College Of Southern Nevada (CSN).  At CSN, Harper led the team in just about every category possible.  He jacked out 31 homers in just 66 games which came out to a homerun about every 14 at bats.

Via CSN

Bryce was ready for the pros, and now it's just Nats history, but Bryce hasn't forgotten about his old baseball team.  Harper sent his old team a collection of 40 baseball bats:

Via the Las Vegas Sun:

"Monday, four boxes arrived at Larimer’s front door with a return shipping label from the Nationals’ clubhouse. He opened the boxes and found 40 Marucci wooden bats — some new and some game-used — that could potentially give the No. 4-ranked Coyotes a distinct advantage the rest of the season."
According to the article, the bats were worth somewhere around $6,000, very helpful for a Juco team:

"Each bat is valued at $150 or higher and is a luxury the players wouldn’t have if not for the generosity of CSN's most famous alumnus."

And of course, Bryce Harper's bat has a Bible Verse on it!  Some of the other bats:

"Some of the used bats came from other major leaguers under contract with Marucci such as Pablo Sandoval, Chase Utley, Todd Helton and Bobby Abreu."

A thank you from the coach:

Bryce Harper Gets Free Chipotle Burritos For Life

DC Sports Nexus ---- Tuesday, March 19, 2013

Bryce Harper tweeted the following picture of his own personal Chipotle giftcard.  I'm sorry, did I say gift card?  I mean free freaking Burritos card!  I hate you Bryce!  Not really, but I want free burritos.  Please don't get fat!  Also, throw some Burritos my way, and when I open them up they better not be just XL t-shirts wrapped in aluminum foil!

Not since Happy Gilmore's lifetime Subway card have I seen such craziness.  Please Bryce, don't get all hopped up like Kramer did with his Cafe Latte deal.

Last year United States Olympic Women's Soccer Player Abby Wambach was also given one of these Burrito for life cards in 2012.

So if you see Bryce Harper at Chipotle, don't give him dirty looks...

Gio Gonzalez vs Clayton Kershaw

DC Sports Nexus ---- Monday, March 18, 2013

Gio Gonzalez and Clayton Kershaw are mortal enemies.  At least when it comes to video game contests.  At least when the company tells them to be.

MLB 2K13 "Perfect Game Challenge" has the two guys going after each other with trash talk via YouTube and Twitter.  Today they released some new twitter trash talk.

From Gio:

"Kicked out of the game once again...Just like the senior prom"

From Kershaw:

"First he's in a zone, and now he's out...what a slaughter"

DC Sports Nexus ---- Tuesday, January 15, 2013

As reported by the crazy dudes at Sharkadina, Roger Bernadina is on Twitter and just sitting around waiting for that blue checkmark to appear.

As you can see, Roger has spent a lot of time customizing his page and using Capital letters for proper nouns.  FOLLOW HIM!!!  Also follow Sharkadina too!

Michael Morse On Twitter, Or Not On Twitter, Or Is On Twitter

DC Sports Nexus ---- Monday, September 24, 2012

On Sunday night, around 8pm the following someone discovered a Twitter user by the name of @DC_Beast38.  A lot of speculation was that this person was Michael Morse of the Washington Nationals.

I saw lots of people arguing and discussing on Twitter, which typically makes for a good post, so here were are.

People began to follow the new Morse account and it went all the way up to almost 900 despite not having a Big Blue Checkmark by his name proving that the account is verified.

Then one of our Twitter fans Danny (@MrNatsVL) did what apparently nobody else decided to do.  Actually try to check up on the story and see if it was true.  Danny went on to the Mike Morse Facebook page and posted a simple comment:

Then the same Facebook page re-commented that it was Morse (meaning the people who run the site didn't know, and that the Facebook page is probably not Morse)

Then Ian Desmond confirmed it.

In the end, after reading all this stuff, I wonder...what the hell do I care and why am I wasting my time...

Happy New Year! Bryce Harper Is Back On Twitter

DC Sports Nexus ---- Thursday, September 6, 2012

Bryce Harper tried Twitter once before.  It didn't quite work out so well.  Harper tweeted about loving the Yankees and Cowboys (not a great idea for the city) then tweeted about how he didn't like any of the DC Sports teams.  (Read more from Wash Post)
Harper quit his account (someone else scooped it up and all his followers).

Well now Bryce Harper is back.  At least, someone on his PR team is.

Bryce's people probably saw that Twitter was a great marketing tool for a player, and a great way for players to connect with fans, so they probably encouraged him to start a new account.  However, unlike last time, other people will most likely be involved.  In fact, the new Bryce account's second tweet was a picture of Under Armour gloves.  $$$$.

Expect a lot of "I love mom & dad", "I love DC", and "Here is a product you can buy!"

Most likely either some ghost writer will be posting everything, or Bryce will be submitting all his tweets to his people for review before post.  Either way, if you are a Nationals fan you should be following the new @BHarper3407 even if it is a censored, watered down, make people happy version.

Of course, I didn't talk to Bryce, but this seems to be the smart move.

The Oakland A's Players Chime In On Kurt Suzuki's Departure

DC Sports Nexus ---- Tuesday, August 7, 2012

Kurt Suzuki was traded from the team he played 6 seasons for, the Oakland A's, to the Washington Nationals.  Suzuki is having fun with his new team and some of his teammates from Oakland are having some fun with him.

On Monday night Suzuki had the game winning bunt "triple" and he tweeted the following:

Here's the response from A's starter Brett Anderson:

And the response from A's starter Brandon McCarthy:

The A's are 1-3 since the Suzuki trade...

Take Your Pants Off, Nats Win!

DC Sports Nexus ---- Tuesday, July 24, 2012

This is one of the sayings that is thrown all over the place on Twitter after a big Nationals win:

"Take Your Pants Off"

Via @DarkMeatHook
Now that is a very interesting thing to do concerning a baseball game outcome.  However, it just sounds like the right thing to do after watching a Bryce Harper game winning single.   Take your pants off!  Tyler Clippard save... Take your pants off!   Nats win...Take your pants off!

So where did this phrase come from?

The person who brought the saying to the Nationals world is @DCYetti.  You should most def follow him if you are down with the district.

Yetti used to watch every Nats game and throw out different congratulatory phrases.  The pants comment, taken from one of his favorite Radio shows, garnered a lot of Twitter fan reaction and others began to pick up the phrase.  The rest is history.

The radio show was hosted by local radio legends Big O and Dukes who use different variations of the phrase with a basic premise of 'pants' and 'off'.  They use the phrase to show excitement.

You probably know Chad Dukes from the radio show he shares with LaVar Arrington on 106.7 the fan. (and his awesome wrestling show/blog) Well if you didn't know, before he was a sports guy he was actually on a different type of radio show...anyways...
Even the Rally Napkin has his own version of this phrase that has been posted after several Nats wins:

So remember, any time the Nationals win it's PANTS OFF!

================================================
Clearly this saying goes back way beyond the Nationals, and if you want to give me a better explanation that would be fantastic.  I've heard Dukes say it on the radio and I'm still not sure the actual origin.  Let's do some crowdsourcing and improve this post!
