Washington Nationals Fans Sing Sweet Caroline, Sort Of

On the Monday following the Boston Marathon bombings (5 days ago), the Washington Nationals returned from a road trip to take on the St. Louis Cardinals at Nats Park.  Early in the game, much like other Major League teams, the organization opted to play the Red Sox classic in-game song, Neil Diamond's Sweet Caroline, in honor of those hurt or killed in the terrible events in Boston.

Well...the Nationals lost again.  The pattern is getting repetitive   Whenever the Nats play a decent team, they can't seem to generate any offense on a consistant basis.  On Tuesday night at Nats Park the Cards defeated the Nats 2-0 after the Nats failed to score a run.  You won't believe the stats the Nats have been putting up in losses this year.

If you payed attention to any Washington Wizards games this season (and you probably didn't) you would know that their draft pick Bradley Beal turned out to be a pretty decent player.  You would also know that he is not just from St. Louis, but is a huge Cardinals fan.  Here is Beal cheering for the Cards at Nats Park.

Another game against the Cardinals, another tough loss for the Washington Nationals.  On Monday night after returning home from a 6 game road trip, the Nationals lost to the Cardinals 3-2 as the evil Cardinal watched from hell.  Rumor has it, if you stare into his dead eyes for 30 seconds you will burst into flames.  Nobody has had the guts to test him...

Wait, what happened?  Oh, I guess there was a baseball game played too.  It was much of what you would expect.  Pete Kozma was booed, and the Nats lost.  A few good things happened...sort of.

Anthony Rendon Loses Helmet, Picks Up First Major League Hit

With Ryan Zimmerman's hamstring in some trouble, the Washington Nationals were forced to call up their top minor league prospect Anthony Rendon. With his family and girlfriend in the crowd, in front of a home Nationals Park, Rendon picked up his first major league hit and RBI both at the same time. The RBI tied the game for the Nats, a huge run in what looks to be a tough ballgame.

Jayson Werth Talks About His Game 4 Homer

The Washington Nationals sat down with Jayson Werth to go over his amazing at bat that ended in a walk-off playoff homerun that Nats fans will never forget.  The video was posted on MLB.com and then played before Monday night's game with the St. Lois Cardinals, their first matchup since the Cards eliminated the Nats from the playoffs in terrible fashion.

Coming off a disappointing series with the New York Mets, the Nationals now get to head back home for a 7-game home stand against two of the NL Central's best.  The first series of the home stand will be against the St. Louis Cardinals, in their first matchup since last season's NLDS (all info on that has been redacted).

The End Of A Season From The Stands

Here is some video from the crowd of the hit that tied the game for the Cardinals in game 5 against the Nats.  A few minutes later the Cardinals took the lead officially ending the season, but that moment when they tied it ended the season for the camera.

After they tied it I just sat in my seat with my head in my hands unable to watch the next play.  The sound of the crowd and the annoying Cardinals fan in front of me told me exactly what happened.

Edwin Jackson Throws Sunflower Seeds At Gio Gonzalez During Interview

On Saturday afternoon, Gio Gonzalez was being interviewed by the Fox Commentators in the dugout and Edwin Jackson decided to "prank" Gio for the second day in a row. (See his Gatorade Helmet Smiley Face Pie)

"Don't worry about it, I'll get them back with a Gatorade cup or somethin" 

Edwin Jackson comes into the camera clearly holding a large bag of sunflower seeds.  He looks over, sees that Gio is on TV, and then sneaks out of camera view (not too sneaky).  A few seconds later sunflower seeds were raining down on Gio's head.

It interrupted the interview a few times as the announcers brought it up.  Here is a quick GIF after the jump.

Bryce Harper: The Justin Bieber Of Baseball & The Playoff Beard

Bryce Harper was interviewed by Harold Reynolds and some other guy on the FOX Saturday Baseball Pregame show.  The two announcers were asking terrible questions, doing awful bits, and then they tried to say "clown question" like it wasn't played out 3 months ago.  Here is a little recap:

One of the lowlights of the interview was when Harold Reynolds decided not just to call Bryce Harper the Justin Bieber of baseball, but to put up a graphic of Harper with a Bieber Haircut.  Bryce was awkwardly laughing and he didn't seem like he was too happy.

Instead of treating Haper like a professional baseball player, they tried some kind of Charles Barkley schtick and it was bad.

The other interviewer (Dan not important enough to know his last name) asked Bryce right off the bat if he was growing a Playoff Beard.  Another awful question (see I don't even use clown question anymore, it is hack)

"Just letting that thing grow out a little bit, on a roll right now, the team's on a roll, tryin to get things goin, keep things going, hopefully keep things going into the playoffs and so forth"

They talked a little about Bryce's game, but it was clearly just to kill time between the worst comedy I've ever seen or heard in my life.  

"That is absolutely brutal, I'm going into this game shocked right now, this is terrible, that's bad"

To finish the interview, Harold Reynolds said "It's not a clown question at least!" And I puked  in my own mouth.

Oh, I did the same thing a while ago?  I like mine better!

Bryce Harper "Stares Down" Cardinals Jason Motte

In the 8th inning of Friday night's blowout win against the St. Louis Cardinals, Bryce Harper struck out  swinging on a 99 mile per hour high heater from Cards pitcher Jason Motte.  After the strikeout, Bryce was staring at the plate and all of a sudden looked up and stared down towards Motte on the mound.

FP Santangelo noted the eye contact made between the pitcher and Bryce Harper.  Harper went back to the dugout and FP claimed that Mott took a long look into the Nats dugout.  Not sure what it as all about, if Harper just was staring to say "how did you throw that pitch past me" or if Mott made some noise after the big K.

Nats Vs Cardinals Calls For A Nelly Song

Don't Underestimate St. Louis

There has been a lot of talk about Chipper Jones vs Bryce Harper for winning the MLB Final Vote spot on the All-Star team.  In all that commotion one thing has been forgotten; that St. Louis fans are obsessed with baseball, and will actually vote for their player, David Freese.  And I am the main culprit of forgetting this.

Halfway into the voting and Chipper Jones leads with David Freese right behind him and Bryce Harper looking in from 3rd place for the NL team.

DC fans are talking about voting for Bryce Harper.  It is all over the radio and TV in the area.  But are people actually voting.  And I don't mean voting 1 time...I mean voting the maximum amount of times.  I mean ballot-stuffing Yao Ming style.  I don't think so.

I know a lot of you are out there button mashing.  You are erasing history deleting your hard drive, or whatever crazy computer stuff you need to do to throw in some illegal votes.  However, notice I said a lot of you, not ALL of you.  In St. Louis, EVERYONE is doing this and EVERYONE in the whole city is voting.

St. Louis as a baseball town makes DC look like a women's soccer town.  That city is one of the craziest baseball cities out there, where people in the neighborhood go out in the cul-de-sac, pop open a few Busch Lights, and listen to the Cards on the radio EVERY NIGHT.

I'm not calling on you to 'waste your time' voting for a "meaningless" game.  St. Louis has a longer baseball tradition that starts way before 2005.  I just want Nationals fans to be prepared in the case that a St. Louis Cardinal wins the Final Vote.  Its going to be almost impossible for DC to top St. Louis...but Harper will get some National help.
