Hey Girl!

When Kristina Akra left the Washington Nationals before the start of the season there was a huge hole in our Nats fandom that was left empty.  There was no young attractive girl to be drenched unexpectedly in Gatorade after big wins at Nats Park.  Well no need to fear Nats fans, the awkward Gatorade showers shall return!  Akra has been replaced!  Info & Pictures follow.

Gio Gonzalez Gets A Shaving Cream Pie To The Face, Davey Wants To Hug More

After Gio Gonzalez's great complete game victory that included a homerun, the Nats pitcher talked with Kristina Akra after the game.  Edwin Jackson snuck up behind him and gave Gio the old shaving cream pie to the face.

This is just another great Nats celebration, this one more classic than the new Bubblegum shower or Soaking Kristina Akra with Icewater in Slow Motion, or hugging.

Akra was scared to death.  She thought she was going to get water dumped on her again.  She said something like "oh my God!" scared.  Great expression:

Kristina Akra Getting Soaked By Ice Water In Slow Motion

This is from Kristina Akra's post-game interview with John Lannan after the left hander picked up his first win of the season.  The team appreciated the effort and doused him in ice water.  Unfortunately for Akra, she took the brunt of the blow.  Video:

Gio Gonzalez Gets The Gatorade Bath Smiley Face Pie In The Face GIF

After pitching a complete game shutout on Friday night in DC, Gio Gonzalez was attacked by teammates during his post-game interview with Kristina Akra.  Akra knew something was up as she made sure to angle her interview to where she could see the dugout out of the corner of her eye.  Sadly she avoided it.

"It's an honor to get Gatorade dumped on your head, but not the Gatorade bucket" -GIO

However, Gio did not avoid it.  First Michael Morse came and dumped the gatorade over Gio, placing the entire orange cooler over Gio's head and then drawing a shaving cream smiley face on the front.  Once Gio got that off and thought it was all over, Edwin Jackson ran out of the dugout with a shaving cream towel pie, and got Gio right in the face.

After he cleaned up he sarcastically thanked Akra for moving out of the way and not warning him.  The GIF after the jump!

A High Flying Drew Storen Closes The Gatorade On Gio Gonzalez After His 20th Win

On Saturday afternoon, Gio Gonzalez became the Major League's first 20 game winner.  Gio picked up the win in front of the home crowd and in front of his mom & dad who he gave game balls after the game.


"As a team feeling right now we feel amazing, i think that this definitely couldn't have been accomplished without this team. These guys have been unbelievable.  It doesn't feel like 20 wins for myself it feels like 20 wins for the team.  One of those things where you can just smile about it, this is a childhood dream, but at the same time to do it with a team that's in first place, makes it that much better" -GIO GONZALEZ

After the game during the post game interview with Kristina Akra, Drew Storen and Ryan Mattheus ran out with the Gatorade jug to dump orange Gatorade all over Gio.  Storen was really into it and did a flying ninja move.  It was awesome.  GIF after the jump:

Ryan Mattheus First Shaving Cream Victim Of The Season

It took several home wins but the Washington Nationals finally gave a shaving cream pie to a post-game interview player.  On Thursday night, after a win and a sweep against the Chicago White Sox, Ryan Mattheus was discussing his relief appearance.  Meanwhile, Drew Storen was sneaking up behind him.

Jayson Werth Uses Supersoaker To Drench Kristina Akra

During a post-game interview with Bryce Harper following a Nationals 9-1 win over the Cubs, Jayson Werth trolled around in the back with a Super Soaker waiting for the opportune moment.  When the moment came he squirted water with his water gun at Kristina Akra during her interview, causing her to flinch away from the water and watch over her back during the interview.

Werth got her once, pretended to walk away, and then soaked her a few more times before walking back down the runway into the locker room.

Super Dezzy: Gio Gonzalez Displays His Ian Desmond Superhero Shirt

We saw the Ian Desmond shirt this morning.  Well Gonzalez was wearing the shirt again sent to Dezzy by a fan.  Gio called Ian Desmond his hero when talking to Akra.  The shirt features Ian Desmond with an old-school batman comic book vibe.  Desmond is wearing a cape and making a throw.

"Why not wear the shirt, he is a hero to us"

Nationals Team Meeting, Davey Johnson: Win One For The Old Man

Davey Johnson, All American...

On Wednesday night during the Nationals vs Marlins broadcast, the announce team reported that the Nats had a special team meeting on Wednesday afternoon.  Davey had his own "win one for the Gipper" speech.  Kristina Akra quoted the Nats skipper as saying:

"Would you just win one for this old man so I can sleep at night!"

FP said the tone of the meeting was "hilarious" and "genius".  While not a big secret meeting guy, DJ had to do something to try to fire up the squad.  He chose a relaxing and calming way instead of screaming at the guys.  The fake Indians manager from Major League would be ashamed.

Nats Rally Kid Version 2

On Monday night against the Astros, the Nationals put up 3 runs in the 5th inning after showing a kid on TV.  FP Santangelo dubbed him the latest 'Rally Kid' replacing that old rally kid who was only good for 1 run.

The Story Behind Gio Gonzalez Captain America Bat

Gio Gonzalez's Custom Captain America Baseball Bat

Early in the Nationals 2012 season, Gio Gonzalez showed off his custom personal baseball bat to Kristina Akra of MASN.  This white Chandler bat features an image of the comic book character Captain America with the following text inscription:  "The Real Captain America - Gio Gonzalez - 'Just What The Doc Ordered' "  The handle of the bat is stained red which fades into the white color at the head of the bat right before the imprints begin..  Here are three sections of the bat:

So where did the bat come from?  Gio said it was a gift from "The Doc" which I believe refers to Thomas Doc Haveron who often refers to Gio as his "nephew" so I'm guessing it is his uncle.

"This was a gift from Doc who gave this to me.  He said it's a token of whats to come...to me it was an honor and a gift that he gave this to me, I'm a big fan of comics."

Gio said Doc (who was the official chiropractor of the New Jersey Nets) introduced him to Brook Lopez of the New York Nets basketball team who is also a comic book fan.  LOL.  "Magneto Was Right"  Here is a picture of Gio and Brook before a Nats @ Mets game back on April 11, 2012.  Oh hey, look at the bat in Gio's hand.  Looks familiar!

On an episode of the MLB Network show Intentional Talk, Gio said the following about the bat:

"Believe it or not that is a very powerful bat. It only stays in my locker when I need some more energy."

I do not believe that Gio ever uses this bat to actually hit because he wouldn't want to ruin this great gift.  Anyways.  Cool story!  Hope this informed you.

Jayson Werth Steals Philly Phanatic's ATV Keys

On Wednesday night at Citizen's Bank Park, former Philly Jayson Werth decided to have some fun with his old pal the Philly Phanatic.  The Phillies mascot was riding around on an ATV nd Jayson Werth decided to steal the keys.  Werth ran away from the Phanatic before chucking his keys underneath the vehicle.

The Phanatic picked them up and was taunting Werth like "I got them back"!  Whatevs.  Here is some Giffyness:

If you are a big fan of shipyard foghorns then you would have been right at home at Nats Park this week.  In the first two games against the Cubs, the Nats hit 12 homers, 6 of them on Wednesday in a blowout 9-1 win.

Gio Gonzalez flirted with a no-hitter into 6 innings and ended with a shutout victory on 3 hits in 7 innings of work.  With a few helpful calls from the ump, and a lot more great pitches, Gio shut down the struggling Cubbies.  That makes 16 straight scoreless for the G-Man and 18 wins.
