Bryce Harper Gets Biebered, Impersonates The Rock, Then Disses Nats Fans Sort Of

DC Sports Nexus ---- Wednesday, January 30, 2013

On Saturday afternoon at Natsfest, Gio Gonzalez and Tyler Clippard hosted a "talk show" in front of Washington Nationals fans.  Their guests included Ian Desmond, Jordan Zimmermann, and Rookie of the Year, Bryce Harper.

Gio was very personable, although most of his questions were "Tell us about yourself", "What toys did you buy" and "How bout the fans".  Desmond talked about how he wanted Spring Training to start, Zimmermann talked about getting married in the offseason while Gio kept talking about his smile, and Bryce Harper once again provided some stomach churning awkward moments (just like on Kimmel).

Harper comes on stage to a familiar song, does a weird WWE Rock move, then proceeds to dis the entire Natsfest and Nationals fans...sort of.  Watch the video to see what he says that gets the crowd all up in arms:

Denard Span Not Recognized By Many Nats Fans

DC Sports Nexus ---- Monday, January 28, 2013

On Saturday afternoon at Natsfest, the Washington Nationals players in attendance were scheduled to appear at several different "stations" of the convention.  The tricky part for the players handlers, was getting the players from point A to point B without having them mobbed by fans.

Even when the players were just talking to reporters in the corner, two separate crowds gathered at each entry point, blocking the players in, not allowing for an easy escape.

For Denard Span, the hype was a little subdued.  Mostly because Span was hidden away in Minnesota and many Nationals fans have never even seen the new Nats leadoff hitter before.

We followed Span as he went from a photograph station to talk with the media and were surprised that nobody was asking for autographs.  A few fans turned their heads in a double-take, and only 4 fans decided to approach the centerfielder.  Was it the clothes?  Was it the newness?  Whatever it was, it was fun.  Take a look:

Danny Espinosa's Beard vs Jayson Werth's Beard: A Beard-Off

DC Sports Nexus ----

Danny Espinosa's new epic beard was a huge smash at Natsfest.  For most fans it was their first glimpse into the madness and it was quite shocking.  The topic of Espy's beard came up throughout the day at the fan event, and we captured a few of the beard zings.

At the end, a guy asks Jayson Werth if he and Espy will have a "Beard-Off".  Who do you think would win the Beard-Off?  When is it going to take place?  Let's get this done!  Take a look:

Chicken Mode Guy Greets DC Mayor Vincent Gray With A Puppet

DC Sports Nexus ---- Sunday, January 27, 2013

The mayor of Washington, DC, Vincent Gray, was in attendance and seated front row for the unveiling of the new racing president, William "Bill" Howard Taft (watch that here).  As he sat and waited, he was approached by the Chicken Mode guy, who was holding a fluffy chicken puppet on his hand.

As the guy has the mayor autograph something he uses his hand to move the puppets mouth.  Gray has no idea what is happening or why a strange man is talking with a chicken to him.  He awkwardly...well just watch the video:

Nationals Racing President Bill: William Howard Taft Welcomed

DC Sports Nexus ----

The Washington Nationals unveiled their newest racing president on Saturday afternoon at Natsfest, William Howard Taft, or "Bill" as they are going to call him.  I think "Taft" is a better option, but it doesn't fit into their little first name basis naming scheme.  Whatever.

Everyone and their mother was on hand for the unveiling, a slew of reporters and photographers crowding the stage like Bryce Harper was going to come out.  Instead it was for a giant mascot.  When Bryce was up on stage, the cameras were much fewer.  Charlie Slowes couldn't believe the media frenzy, and neither could I.

By now you have probably seen 100 fan videos of the William Howard Taft press conference, so we shook things up with our version of the event.  Check it out:

DC Sports Nexus ----

On Saturday afternoon at the Convention Center in downtown Washington, DC, the Washington Nationals held their fan appreciation event called Natsfest.  It was a chance to get to know the players, management  and media a little better, and was filled with opportunities to meet players, get photos taken, and get autographs.

The event was quite fun and we were all over the place trying to soak it all in.  Take a look at this brief 1 minute recap where we try to jam the entire event into a short amount of time.
