Results:  More than half of you thought that it was nobody's fault.  30% blamed Davey Johnson for allowing Desmond to convince him, and the other 16% thought Desmond should have taken himself out.

The trade deadline is approaching (Tuesday at 4pm) and the Washington Nationals are still in first place in the division, tied for the best record in all of baseball.  But is the team as currently constructed good enough to win a World Series.  Where do you think they can improve, possibly by tomorrow afternoon.  (multiple answers allowed)

With Drew Storen beginning his rehab assignment, it is almost time for his return to the Majors.  Davey says Storen's arm isn't ready yet, but in a few weeks the Nats former closer should be back with the team.

Last season Storen was 43 for 48 on save opportunities and he finished the year with an ERA of 2.75.  Since Clippard became the closer he has saved 13 out of 14 and now has 14 saves on the season.  Davey has said that Clip and his 1.83 ERA will be counted on to close games even when Storen returens.

"It's not a bad problem to have" is what fans and management both say, but we want to get your opinion.

Fan Poll: Ryan Zimmerman, His Shoulder, & the DL

Last week's question:  Do you want the Nats to waste a Strasburg inning for the All-Star game?  


Majority Answer:  Yes - The results for this were as you would expect from Nationals fans.  88% want to see Stephen pitch even though it could knock an inning off his limit.  The All-Star game is one of the great parts of baseball, and Strasburg is one of the great pitchers in baseball.  This should be a no-brainer for the team.

This week we take a look at the struggling Ryan Zimmerman.  Zimmerman's average has toppled all the way down to .223, even after a 2 hit performance on Sunday afternoon.  Zimmerman has admitted that he was hurting and he could possibly be hitting the DL again if things don't get better in this upcoming week.

Davey Johnson continues to hit Zimmerman in the 3 spot, and Ryan finally picked up an RBI, his first in 12 games.  Not exactly the kind of numbers you want in your #3 slot.  But since the shoulder is the problem, then instead of asking if you want to see the Z-man moved out of the top of the order, we will ask another question:

Last Monday we asked which injured National you missed the most.  Werth, Tracy, Ramos, or Storen.  The results were pretty much split between Drew Storen & Jayson Werth.  No love for pinch hitters or catchers...no shocker there.

This week we take a look at clutch hitting.  Lots of Nats have had clutch hits this season, but when it comes down to it who would you want at the plate in a 2 out bottom of the 9th runners in scoring position situation?

Last Monday we asked you who you would rather see pitch if you could only choose 1 guy for 1 game.  The results were 75% in favor of Gio Gonzalez with only 25% going with Stephen Strasburg.

I know that Gio has been pitching lights out lately.  In fact he was the MLB Pitcher of the Month for May.  But do you really want to take Gio over Stephen Strasburg?  Remember when Strasburg pitched his first Major League Game?  You aren't taking him?

I would like to ask the same people who participated this same question again now, after Strasburg's gem and Gio's letdown this weekend.  I bet it would flip completely.  Although how can you not vote for Gio Gonzalez for anything.

But I don't want to ask that question.  I could probably ask it all year.  Instead, this week's question will focus on injuries.  With Michael Morse coming back finally, I was thinking about some of the other guys that were on the DL with him.

Your answer doesn't have to be the biggest impact player.  It just has to be the player on the team that you hate not seeing out on the field.  So...

Last night, Gio Gonzalez picked up the win after striking out 10 batters and allowing 1 hit over 7 innings to get his record to 7-1.  At this time, Gio's ERA sits at 2.04 and he has 79 strikeouts, the most in baseball.

In the game prior, Stephen Strasburg only made it through 5 innings, but he still struck out 6 on his way to another Nats victory and a 5-1 record.  Strassy's ERA at this time is a little lower at 2.64 and with 70 strikeouts he is 5th in baseball.

These 2 guys have pitched some great games this year and are a big reason the team is sitting atop the NL East right now.  So if they were pitching back to back games and you had to choose only one to see, who would you rather see pitch?
