Gio Gonzalez made the first two outs in an inning, both strikeouts.  Yep.  You read that right.  That means that the Nats batted around, and the Pitcher ended up batting twice and being the only guy to get out.  That was during the 3rd inning where the Nationals took control of the game.

The Nats went on to defeat the Giants on Monday Night 14-2 after a 21 hit night.  With a Braves loss earlier in the day, the Nationals are now up 5.5 games in the division.

The Nats didn't do anything too powerful.  Bases loaded walks, a bunch of well placed grounders that hit bases, gloves, knees, and hands, a Kurt Suzuki 3 RBI double (grounder) down the line, and if you can believe it by the way the ball was bouncing around, no errors.

Not only did the Nats knock out Giant's starter Ryan Vogelsong in the 3rd, but the umpires knocked out Giant's manager Bruce Bochy in the inning.

The offense didn't stop with the 8 run third.  How about 6 combined runs on Brad Penny in the 4th & 5th, including more bases loaded situations and a Danny Espinosa bomb.

Espinosa & Bernadina had 4 hits each, and Lombo, Zim, & Suzuki each had 3 hits on the night.

Gio pitched a great game but his pitching doesn't make the recap until the end.  Gonzo pitched 6 2/3 innings, under 100 pitches, and gave up just 6 hits and 2 runs to pick up his 15th win.

The Nationals head to Arizona to finish out the week...
