Nationals 12, Rockies 5
What you just read is not a misprint! The Nationals won the second game of four in Colorado tonight with a 12 run explosion of offense. There's alot to cover in this one...so here we go:
Gio Gonzalez pitched well, though he struggled with command over his curveball for the second straight start. Still, giving up 5 runs in Coors isn't anything to be ashamed of. Thanks to a little run support Gio notched his 10th win on the season. Now about that run support...
LaRoche got things started in the second with a solo homerun to left field. Then in the third, Morse got in on the action with a 2 RBI double. Where did this offense come from? One word, Rally Napkin.
The Rockies would tie things up in the 3rd inning as Gio struggled and Harper made a horrible rookie mistake in the outfield. Then, in the 4th, Gio said "I got this guys" and singled in Flores to retake the lead. The Nats would never look back.
In the 5th inning, Desmond doubled in two runs and Tyler Moore hit a three run homer as the legend of Rally Napkin grew. Before the night was over the Nats would score 12 runs with LaRoche homering again and Zimmerman going yard as well.
Finally, in a night filled with excitement and napkins, the true star on the field was Ryan Zimmerman. He hit his 1000th career hit tonight. Congrats Zim and I can wait to watch your next 1000 in a National's uniform!
