Homer Homer Nothing, Nats Lose

Braves 3, Nationals 2

Only 2 batters into the game and the Washington Nationals were up 2-0.  Two rookies lead the game off with back to back homers, but it was all downhill from there as the Nats couldn't manage another run the rest of the game in a 3-2 loss to Atlanta on Sunday afternoon.

Lombardozzi's homer in the 1st inning was the 1st of his career and it was followed up by Harper's 5th of the season.

The MLB "Pitcher of the Month (May)" Gio Gonzalez had an outing that looked similar to his debut with the Nats, lasting less than 5 full innings of work.  Gio gave up 7 hits and 3 runs.  The bullpen came in and cleaned up with Stammen pitching 2 full innings and Gio's final out in the 5th to help Davey keep the bullpen rested.

Harper made another baserunning mistake trying to stretch a double into a triple, making that 2 days in a row he ran himself off the bases.  On Sunday it was extremely costly because he would have given the Nats a runner in scoring position in a 1 run game.

Ryan Zimmerman had another terrible ZIDP (Zim Into Double Play) that killed the Nats chances in the 8th.

Nats get a day off then meet the Mets in DC.  They get to miss Santana...no worries...
