Who would have thought that Ross Detwiler, the Nationals 5th starter, would be the first starting pitcher to take home a win? Well it happened thanks to 5 scoreless innings with 6 strikeouts and giving up only 2 hits in a Nationals 6-2 victory over the Mets.
Detwiler's night ended after 5 because he hadn't pitched much in the spring and they want his arm to get used to throwing long outings slowly.
Ian Desmond got the game started off right with a leadoff home run. Dez also had another hit and drew a walk. The Jayson Werth of old is beginning to emerge (I hope). He went 4-5 and drove in 2 runs. Wilson Ramos even got going a little with 2 hits, including a long double to the wall.
The Nationals pitching staff is going to be just fine this year, so if the Nats can score like this on most nights they are going to pick up a lot of victories.
