Mets Knuckle, Nats Buckle

Mets 3, Nationals 1

R.A. Dickey and his wicked knuckleball blew through the Nationals lineup and helped the Mets prevent the sweep with a 3-1 win on Thursday afternoon in Washington, D.C.  The Mets lit up Chien-Ming Wang for 8 hits but could only plate 2 runs off of him.  However, with the Nats offense swinging and missing, the Mets didn't need many runs to take home the W.

Wang had a fairly poor game and pitched his way out of several jams.  But he only gave up 2 runs on a Lucas Duda homer.  Wang had a brutal 5th inning throwing 29 pitches in the frame which helped lead to his early exit after 1 out in the following inning.

The Nats just could not figure out R.A. Dickey on the day.  Dickey pitched 7 1/3 innings of 4 hit shutout baseball striking out 8 along the way.  The Nats had a chance in the 7th with runners on 1st and 2nd with 0 outs, but they couldn't get the job done.

Bryce Harper also came up to put a rise in the ballpark in the 8th with runners on 2nd & 3rd with 2 outs, but he grounded out.  Then in the 9th, Zimmerman hit a homer off of closer Frank Francisco, but it wasn't enough.

Announcer Corner:  FP Santangelo said that a dragonfly called him 'bro'...

The Nats head to Boston tomorrow for a 3 game set with the annoying Sox...
