Nationals 4, Red Sox 3 (SWEEP)

Bryce Harper wasn't even supposed to play.  However that didn't stop him from scoring the go-ahead run in the 9th inning to give the Nationals the 4-3 win over the Red Sox at Fenway on Sunday afternoon.  With that win the Nattys finally complete a sweep and pick up a game in the standings, remaining in first place.

Bryce was donning the eye black in the dugout the whole game itching to make an appearance if the chance presented itself.  And in the 9th inning the opportunity came up, and Harper stepped up to seize it.  After drawing a walk on 5 pitches, Harper took off running on a 2 strike pitch to Roger Bernadina.

The Shark hit a shot down the line and Harper sprinted around the bases with no intention to stop.  Harper slid into home safely and the Nats took the lead.  Bernadina's RBI double (ended up on 3rd) turned out to be the game winning run as Tyler Clippard closed out the Sox in the bottom of the inning with 3 K's for his 3rd save in 3 games (8th).

Lester looked like the better pitcher on the day but in the end both guys ended up pitching 7 innings and having similar stats.  Jordan Zimmermann pitched an OK game striking out 7 batters in a 3 run 7 hit performance.  (Gorzelanny got the W)

His counterpart Jon Lester was cruising with 9 strikeouts but ended up giving up the tying run in the 7th on an Espinosa 2 RBI double, a routine pop fly that hit the green monster 1 inch away from the glove of the outfielder.

Fenway is very neat and unique but it was the downfall of the Red Sox on Sunday.  And what is with the 3 foot high walls and fans interfering with live fair balls?

Also of note Bobby V got ejected from the bench with 2 outs in the 9th ... no time for a fake mustache...

Oh by the way, the Celtics lost last night too...
