A game-winning Michael Morse homerun soared over the fence in the 8th inning as the Nationals defeated the Braves 5-4 in Atlanta on Friday night. Ross Detwiler pitched 6 good innings of scoreless baseball, but he fell apart in the 7th giving up 4 runs to allow the Braves to tie. That was until Morse stepped up in the 8th.
Morse's homer capped a 4 for 4 night that included 3 singles and the game-changing homerun. Morse has been on a tear lately with 13 hits in his last 5 games! (16 in 8 games).
Tyler Clippard allowed a leadoff double in the 9th inning but escaped with lucky save #13.
The Nats offense continued rolling, outside of Coors Field. Ryan Zimmerman picked up 2 more hits and now has 11 hits in his last 6 games. Throw Ian Desmond and his 2 RBI night in the mix and the Nats offense may be on to something. Ross Detwiler even knocked in a run. 15 hits on the night for the Nasty Nattys.
The win puts the Nats another game up on the Braves...back to Hot-Lanta for a 4:05 start on Saturday afternoon...
